Excerpt from my book "The Last War" Chapter 2

The Gandharva army started the onslaught. As they approached closer to the walls, they clashed with the first line of the Hariapan defence that were positioned just outside the high walls. The Paurava army cried in unison “Har Har Mahadeva” (Lord Shiva resides in each one of us). As the two armies clashed, soldiers were being beheaded. Many of the Gandharvas were struck dead with the poisoned arrows launched from the bows of the warriors on the chariots of the Paurava ranks, while the horsemen butchered the on foot soldiers with swiftness of their swords. However, the force with which the Gandharva army attacked was nullifying the heroics of the Paurava army. The enemy was now well within the perimeter of the archers mounted on the walls. The Paurava army outside the walls fighting with the Gandharva army made sure they were closer to the walls enough to avoid the arrows of their own archers. This was like a bait. Charulata was waiting for this time. She ordered, “Now”. She shouted at the top of her voice. “Fire your arrows at will.” The order echoed across the perimeter of the wall. The archers raised their bow in unison and got in position that they had been practicing for a long time. Within a minute, swarms of arrows were seen originating from the high walls and hundreds of enemy soldiers and horsemen were hit and instantly died due to the deadly poison applied on the arrow heads that pierced into their bodies and mixed with the adrenalin rush of blood.
